Shabbat Across Fair Lawn provides the opportunity for the entire Jewish community to celebrate Shabbat together. We share the Sabbath experience with a festive meal, songs, socializing and spirit. At the Annual Ruth Heffler Judaic Contest children in fourth through eighth grades work together to answer questions composed by local rabbis on the Bible, Jewish holidays, Jewish history and Israel. At the Community- wide Chanukah celebration the entire community has the opportunity to celebrate the joyous miracle of Chanukah together with the lighting of the Chanukiah, songs, entertainment and Chanukah treats. The Annual Maos Chitim campaign raises money to help families in need celebrate Passover. The funds raised are distributed to Tomchei Shabbos, Jewish Family and Children’s Service and Bris Avrohom. The Annual Mitzvathon brings together volunteers to assist in a wide range of community service and humanitarian activities such as visiting nursing homes and group homes, bringing gifts to the elderly, and collecting and distributing clothing, toys and eyeglasses for people in need. By sending a copy of the UJA/Federation’s Jewish Holidays Calendar to Fair Lawn town officials, police and fire departments, Board of Education, Recreation Department and Chamber of Commerce, the Council promotes its goal of working in harmony with the entire Fair Lawn community.
Bar/Bat Mitzvah gifts are distributed to children in Fair Lawn upon their becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah. Tomchei Shabbos of Fair Lawn and Elmwood Park packages and distributes Shabbat meals to fifty needy, ill or infirm Jewish families and/or individuals in our neighborhood, allowing them to enjoy festive Shabbat meals.

In addition to the above programs, the Fair Lawn Jewish Community Council implements programs throughout the year
ranging in a variety of topics that are relevant to people of all ages and interests.
